During the last week of September, members of KOD Polonia USA had several opportunities to meet with Senator Bogdan Klich during the course of his trip to the United States for the Center For European Policy Analysis (CEPA) annual conference.
On Saturday, September 24, 2016, Senator Klich was the keynote speaker in a panel discussion featuring KOD Polonia USA directors Peter J Wlodarczyk, Andrzej Hryn, and Tom Kokocinski and Progress for Poland editor-in-chief Andrzej Jarmakowski. The discussion was moderated by Prof. Kinga Kosmala. After a brief opening statement, Senator Klich engaged in a lively back-and-forth discussion featuring questions from the roughly 40 audience members in attendance, most of whom were members of KOD Polonia USA’s Chicago division. The discussion lasted for nearly three hours, and covered topics ranging from the current state of the parliamentary opposition in Poland, Senator Klich’s views on the vital role of KOD, the importance of the Polish-American community, and his views on the PiS government’s plans for the future. Those in attendance were impressed with Senator Klich’s optimistic tone and hope for the future, as well as the generosity he displayed in staying until 10 p.m. to ensure that all audience members had a chance to ask questions and express their views.
On Monday, September 26, 2016, Senator Klich held an additional two-hour meeting with members of KOD Polonia USA’s Board of Directors to discuss strategies and future plans for collaboration. He then flew to Washington, D.C., where he met with Senate leaders and think-tank representatives before attending the CEPA conference on the 28th and 29th. On the 28th, Senator Klich was also able to attend another KOD Polonia USA meeting with members of the Washington, D.C. chapter.
KOD Polonia USA thanks Senator Klich for dedicating his time and energy to building our partnership and appreciates his intelligent, clear analysis of the situation as well as his optimism regarding the path forward.
